How to spot them

Slender brown insects with rear pincers, hiding by day under flowerpots, mulch, doormats, and garden clutter — then wandering indoors at night through door sweeps and weep holes. The pincers look alarming; they're harmless.

Why they show up in the Central Valley

Irrigated Valley yards are earwig paradise: damp mulch, drip lines, and cool concrete edges. After a wet spring their numbers explode, and summer heat sends them indoors hunting moisture.

What you can do right now

Let mulch dry out between waterings, move potted plants a foot off the foundation, and shake out doormats. A rolled-up damp newspaper left out overnight makes a surprisingly effective trap — toss it in the morning.

How Cornerstone handles it

We treat the moist harborage zones around the foundation and the entry gaps they use, keeping the porch and kitchen pinch-free. Earwigs are covered in every regular visit.
