Mosquitoes: What Actually Works

Serving Stanislaus, San Joaquin & Merced counties since 2011.

Mosquitoes
Not a pest we treat — we refer out

How to spot them

Bites at dusk and dawn, and high-pitched whining indoors at night. If they're breeding on your property, you'll find the wrigglers in any standing water — a forgotten bucket, a clogged gutter, a saucer under a pot.

Why they show up in the Central Valley

The Valley's irrigation canals and warm nights make mosquito season long, but most backyard problems come from water within a hundred feet of the bite: birdbaths, green pools, and gutters holding an inch of water can each breed thousands.

What you can do right now

Empty or refresh anything holding water weekly — that alone removes most breeding. For persistent problems, your local mosquito abatement district (free, taxpayer-funded) will inspect and treat sources like neglected pools; look up East Side Mosquito Abatement District for the Modesto area.

How Cornerstone handles it

Mosquito treatment isn't a service we offer — we'd rather tell you that plainly than sell you a spray program. Cutting off standing water is the most effective first move anyone can make, and the abatement district handles the rest at no cost.
